Our campsite is nestled between two hills with a beautiful creek running through the middle. The waterfall offers a tranquil retreat for the soul, right on the campground. We offer ablutions and washing-up facilities with solar lighting and hot showers powered by gas geysers. The camp site is off-grid, 4×4 access. There is no electricity and very limited cell phone reception. It is truly nature at its best.

Guests have a large braai area with a plunge pool next to the creek. Chopped wood is delivered daily as required, free of charge. Sturdy single moveable braais are also supplied should you wish to have your fire closer to your vehicle.

WELCOME TO PARADISE

Ouhout campsite is situated on the Farm Oshoek, a working cattle, sheep and apple farm. A little less than 10 km out of Wakkerstroom towards Piet Retief, turn off the main road and meander your way through the hills along a 7 km scenic dirt road. We recommend that you travel in an offroad vehicle or SUV, especially if towing a caravan.

The area is well-known for it’s birdlife, beautiful scenery, and trails for hiking, running and mountain biking. The farm boasts a huge variety of wild flora, including a large number of documented wild orchid species. Natural game also thrive on the farm.

BIRD-WATCHING

Wakkerstroom is a world-renowned birding destination where the Mpumalanga Highveld meets the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg escarpment, offering a unique combination of high-altitude grasslands, mistbelt forests, and sprawling wetlands. The mountainous areas surrounding the town are critical habitats for several threatened species and endemic birds.

FLORA & FAUNA

Nestled in a, surprisingly, rich botanical hotspot, featuring a spectacular array of wild orchids. The grassy slopes and moist, rocky crevices are home to numerous terrestrial orchid species, often found tucked away in the diverse montane grassland ecosystem. While some are widespread, others are specialized, thriving in the cool, misty conditions of the escarpment.
